About

The “Bull Smelling Flowers” on the corner of Broadway and George, is the latest of several murals I have painted in the city of De Pere. I really wanted the bull to bring the same energy as “The Elephant” mural I made last year which is just across the street. Typically I paint on canvas, so it was important to me that the bull mural looked like a painting. I was excited because the surface texture of the building allowed me to achieve intricate details and utilize techniques similar to those on a smaller painting. I wanted the end result to be uplifting and beautiful in contrast to the despair of 2020. In stopping to smell the flowers, the viewer can think about the beauty in the world around us, and being true to oneself. The bees in the artwork represent community, fertility, hard work, and divinity.

The Vision

De Pere is such a wonderful place to create because people show so much love and curiosity during the process. I have had numerous thoughtful conversations with people as they pause for a moment to watch me paint. I have spent most of my artistic career creating sculptures and paintings in a gallery setting. Venturing into street art captures a much different audience. What is satisfying to me is that people who may not normally visit a gallery are exposed to art. As De Pere continues to make extensive investments into the arts, I am proud to participate in the transformation.
